The first snowy day

It’s that time of year again. The one that keeps coming every year around this time. The first day in the fall when snow actually falls. For some reason, this seems to be a surprise to everyone. Hey, whaddayaknow; Winter showed up again. And here we were, expecting it to, what, skip us this year? Newsflash; this is Norway. We tend to get winters here. They usually last from October through March. At least.

So snowfall in the very end of October should surprise noone.

But every year we get the same chaos here in Oslo.

Buses and cars alike are strewn everywhere. It never seems to occur to anyone to actually make the switch to snowtyres beforehand. Like when the weather reports have been saying for a week that there would be snow falling today.

Personally I was to lazy to change tyres yesterday after work, when I got home at 10:30PM / 22.30. So I made the responsible choice this morning; got up a bit earlier so I could travel by subway instead. And the car will stay put until I either can bother to change the tyres myself, or it thaws out enough for me to take the car to a garage that will change them for me. What money can’t buy when you’re lazy…

But I’m really looking forward to walking around Oslo after work, laughing my head off at all those poor sods stuck in traffic on summer tyres.

Ha, since I might have to overview a case at court today (and/or tomorrow), I was wearing my serious-looking shoes today - and they’re not made for winterish condisions! I felt like one of them cars without wintertyres, skidding and stumbling forward to the safety of the office…

  • Hehehehe! Serves you right;) Better get your snowshoes out!

My wintershoes are being repaired as we spea… Write, I mean.

.. so is it that time this time of year?

Sorry, just had to poke fun at you a little. Sibling rivalry, you know. Can’t help it :-p

Can’t wait to get my own car to drive around laughing at sods without wintertyres!

  • Hahahahaha. The snow came here in Stavanger as well today :) CHAOS! Not real snow, but the kind of snow we are used to here :) Wet snow that falls in HUGE flakes. There was no need for winter tires even though many of the morons on the road thought so.

And yes it came as a big surprise on everyone even though the forecast said that there would be a high risk for snow.

You have a nice blog going here, and I like your taste in literature :D I think I have to pop in from time to time to see if there’s anything new. Keep up the good work (meant in both ways ;) )

  • that was a so-called Pun, or play of words. I’m sorry you failed to recognize it;)
